Founded by Bruce and Joan Johnson in the mid-1970s when the typical American home was finished with simple mouldings that did little to enhance their beauty, style or comfort, White River™ Hardwoods created a product line of traditional hardwood mouldings that launched the market for decorative millwork. Their stain-grade Poplar and Red Oak mouldings based on classical rules of balance and proportion were a refreshing deviation from the paint-grade softwoods that had dominated the market for decades. Building on their success, the Johnsons soon added embossed hardwood mouldings and medium density fiberboard (MDF) to the product line.

White River's market share grew steadily throughout the 1980's as architects, designers and consumers were once again recognizing the legacy of ornament. This inspired Bruce and Joan to resurrect and enhance their product line with even more traditional European design elements. The 1990's saw White River™ expand into the market in 27 countries.

Armed with new design ideas and technology new to the building materials industry, White River™ took the next pioneering step - embellished, high-relief mouldings. The introduction of Mon RealeŽ (Italian for "Royal Mountain") mouldings was a breakthrough that allowed architects, interior designers and builders to elaborate the functional elements of a home or office to create rich, traditionally inspired interiors at a reasonable cost. A complete line of architectural details - Authentic Hand-CarvedŽ Woodcarvings - each hand-carved by master woodcarvers soon followed and were an instant success. In the late 1990's White River™ entered the Kitchen & Bath industry and recently launched an entire new product line, "Adornments for Cabinetry & Furniture™", dedicated to the Cabinetry & Furniture Industry. With custom design and species quotes available White River™ Hardwoods has truly become the One Source™ and the industry's leading resource for interior architectural millwork.
